The Washington Nationals on Tuesday placed Trevor Williams on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor muscle strain, interrupting what had been a strong season for the right-hander, who has pitched to a 2.22 ERA in 11 starts. The move is retroactive to June 1.
Williams, 32, had been expected to pitch Tuesday night when the Nationals faced the New York Mets at Nationals Park. Instead, Washington recalled left-handed pitcher DJ Herz from the Class AAA Rochester Red Wings. Herz is now expected to make his MLB debut Tuesday.
