Bhaker had opened India’s account in the Olympics on Sunday, 28 July with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Two days later,
she would win mixed team 10m air pistol bronze with Sarabjot Singh to become the first Indian after Independence to win two medals in the same Olympics.
Bhaker nearly won an unprecedented third medal later that week,
finishing fourth in the women’s 25m air pistol event on 2 August.

She would end up winning a third of India’s medals at the Paris Olympics, with the country winning a total of six medals — one silver and five bronze. India could have taken their medal count into double digits had it not been for a flurry of fourth-place finishes.
It would be their joint-second highest medal haul at the Olympics, matching their tally in the 2012 London Games though India had won an additional silver back then.
