D.C.-area forecast: More storms possible today, then turning less humid and quite nice

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Muggy and more storms. But not expecting major tornadoes again.

  • Today: Scattered showers and storms, mostly in the afternoon. Highs: Near 85
  • Tonight: Lingering evening downpours, then partly cloudy. Lows: 60 to 67.
  • Tomorrow: Partly to mostly sunny, delightful. Highs: Near 80.

After Wednesday night’s tornadoes, I imagine everyone’s ready for a breather from the storms. Unfortnately, we’ll have some more around today, but the chance of twisters is much lower. The payoff for this turbulent stretch is beautiful sunshine Friday into the weekend.

Today (Monday): Skies are mostly cloudy but occasional intervals of sunshine are possible. Scattered showers and storms are most likely in the afternoon, but a passing shower is possible in the morning, too. A few storms could become severe with damaging straight-line winds, but the odds of a tornado are low. It’s humid with highs near 85. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A few downpours could linger into the evening, but most of us should be drying out after sunset. Overnight lows range through the 60s as skies become partly cloudy. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Friday): Humidity will drop throughout the day (dew points falling through the 50s) and it will be a delight. Expect lots of sun and just a few clouds, with highs near 80. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Under clear skies, it’s a crisp, refreshing night that invites you to open up your windows. Lows range through the 50s except right around 60 downtown. Confidence: High

Both weekend days look quite good with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. The lone wrinkle is that a high altitude disturbance passing by late Sunday could set off a few showers — but odds of that are less than 20 percent right now. Lows on Saturday night range from the upper 50s to mid-60s. Confidence: Medium-High
