After revamping its entry-level C3 line-up globally, Citroen has now shifted focus on readying its flagship next-gen C5 Aircross SUV. The new C5 Aircross will see a global debut next year and will spawn an electric derivative that has been spied testing abroad. The outgoing model was available with multiple powertrain options, including a diesel engine which is also on sale in IndiaÂ

Next-gen C5 Aircross: What do the spy shots show?
These spy shots have been captured near Spain by our friends at Motor.es. At first glance, it appears the test mule is wearing the same body as the existing C5 Aircross, but a closer look reveals new underpinnings. First up, the battery pack is clearly visible, jutting out from under the car between the front and the rear axles. Secondly, at the back, the standard C5 Aircross has an exhaust pipe which is missing on this test mule. Â
The spotted test mule is undergoing early stage platform and powertrain testing. The new C5 Aircross will sit on the new STLA medium platform developed by parent company Stellantis. This modular platform also underpins the Peugeot e3008 and the Opel Grandland electric SUV. ‘

The final bodyshell of the new C5 Aircross has not been seen yet, but we expect the new SUV to continue with its upright looks for added practicality. There are talks of the new eC5 getting a three-row variant as well.
As for the powertrain, the new eC5 Aircross will likely get an 86kWh battery with a 400V architecture. Expected WLTP range for the flagship Citroen electric SUV will be around 500km. There are talks of the line-up consisting both single motor and dual motor AWD setups.Â
Global debut for the new eC5 Aircross is slated to take place sometime next year. In India, Citroen sells the current C5 Aircross as a CKD model, and the same can be expected for the next-gen SUV as well.Â
