After China congratulated Prime Minister-Designate Narendra Modi for his third stint in the office, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal elucidated the importance of normalisation of ties between India and China.
In a post on X, formally known as Twitter, Jaiswal thanked the Chinese foreign ministry for congratulating the prime minister after he emerged victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In his post, Jaiswal maintained that India will pursue the normalisation of its ties with China based on mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity.
“Thank you @MFA_China for congratulating PM @narendramodi on his election victory,” Jaiswal wrote on X, formally known as Twitter. “Will continue to pursue efforts towards normalisation of India-China ties based on mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity,” he added.

The statement from the Indian official came hours after China extended wishes to the Prime Minister-designate. “Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi, BJP and the National Democratic Alliance on the election victory. We look forward to a healthy & stable China-India relationship,” the Chinese foreign ministry wrote on X.
China calls for a ‘healthy and stable’ relations with India
While addressing a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that the “healthy and stable” relations between India and China are in the best interest of both sides. She also expressed China’s readiness to work with India in the interest of the people of the two nations.
“We noted that the results of India’s general elections have been announced. China congratulates the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, along with their National Democratic Alliance, on their victory,” she averred when asked about Beijing’s comments on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“A healthy and stable China-India relationship is in the common interest of both sides and is conducive to peace and development in the region and the world. China is willing to work together with India in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, focusing on the big picture and looking to the future to promote the development of relations between the two countries along a healthy and stable track,” she added.
Meanwhile, Narendra Modi is scheduled to be sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term. The oath-taking ceremony will take place on June 9 at 7:15 pm in Rashtrapati Bhawan. Alongside the Prime Minister, members of his council of ministers are also expected to take their oath on the same day.
