BYD‘s entry into the two-wheeler space, specifically with an electric maxi-scooter, would mark a significant expansion of its electric vehicle offerings. Given its strong reputation in the EV sector and its expertise as a leading battery manufacturer, this move seems like a well-planned approach from the brand. The leaked patent drawings, indicating a large maxi-scooter design, suggest that BYD is aiming for a powerful and stylish product that could rival established brands in the maxi-scooter class.
BYD’s strategy likely involves leveraging its deep experience in battery technology to offer long-range capabilities, which is a crucial feature for electric scooters. The design, which is said to be reminiscent of modern maxi-scooters, could appeal to urban commuters and riders looking for a premium, high-performance electric two-wheeler. This development also points to BYD’s plans to expand its EV lineup and possibly secure a sizable share in the electric two-wheeler market.

From the spy images, BYD has opted to use a mid-mounted motor with a chain drive for its electric maxi-scooter, indicating a focus on performance and efficiency. This setup, coupled with batteries placed around the floorboard, helps maintain a low centre of gravity, which should enhance the scooter’s handling and stability. The scooter is likely to ride on 14-inch wheels, a USD and twin shock absorber suspension setup, a large and wide saddle and a big windscreen.
